Jan Barefoot

Title: Capturing Digital Media and Social Media Footprints

Jan Barefoot is the founder of Barefoot Professional Investigations, a Charlotte-based firm she launched in 1986 to provide trustworthy, high-quality investigative services across the Southeast. With nearly four decades of experience, Jan has worked hundreds of homicide and serious felony cases, supporting criminal defense teams with fact development, witness interviews, digital evidence review, and comprehensive case analysis.

In addition to her criminal defense work, Jan conducts corporate investigations and insurance fraud investigations involving surveillance, background research, and social media analysis.

Jan is also highly trained in digital forensics, holding advanced Cellebrite certifications (CCO, CCPA, CASA) and earning her ICMDE – Certified Mobile Device Examiner through IACIS. Her ability to extract and analyze mobile device data adds significant value to criminal, civil, and corporate matters.

Known for her integrity, professionalism, and client-focused approach, Jan continues to lead a team dedicated to delivering clear, reliable answers when they matter most. She is an active member of NALI, Intellenet, WAD, and IACIS, and remains committed to ongoing training and industry innovation.
